Find out how to enable DLSS setting for 1440p: Guide for FFXV DLSS, Cyberpunk DLSS Sharpness
Before diving into all the technical stuff, let’s understand what DLSS is and why you should be using it. DLSS, which is an abbreviation for Deep Learning Super Sampling, was developed by the GPU designing and manufacturing giant Nvidia. Its purpose was to upscale and enhance imagery in real-time with the help of deep-learning algorithms.
With the help of DLSS, the possibility of rendering out graphics at a lower resolution without losing its details was achieved and because of this, a significant improvement can be observed in the performance. This permits the users to experience higher output resolutions with better details and framerates. DLSS setting for 1440p FFXV DLSS, Cyberpunk DLSS Sharpness can be found later in the post.
So, in short DLSS multiplies the performance without having the need to upgrade your existing hardware.
DLSS 1 vs DLSS 2 vs DLSS 3
DLSS 1.0 and DLSS 2.0 were the first two versions of DLSS or better known as the first two generations of DLSS. So far, these are only compatible with the Nvidia based RTX cards. DLSS 1.0 had the image upscaling ability which was integrated with games like Battlefield V and others. Prior to its release a lot of upgrades were made to this version before launching DLSS 2. DLSS setting for 1440p: Guide for FFXV DLSS, Cyberpunk DLSS Sharpness will help us understand these in depth.
DLSS 2.0 was released in the April of 2020 and was a massive improvement over its predecessor. Being a rapidly fast AI form of TAAU, it used Tensor Cores to generically train itself which resulted in attainability of huge visible enhancement in the gameplay.
DLSS 3.0 is the most recent version of its kind and it’s launch was only recently announced at the Nvidia’s GTC 2022 event. It uses a method called optical flow, which means the pattern in which the light affects the moving objects in a scene. It renders an image based on the data available from two images that were rendered beforehand and then fill it with an image in between them to make a smooth visual output.
As of now, DLSS 3.0 does not support VR.
How to enable DLSS and its requirements
Enabling DLSS is fairly easy. It’s just a matter of clicks and you’re done, but in order for DLSS to work on your system, you first need to make sure that you have the right hardware (as mentioned above). Second of all, the drivers on your device needs to be up to date or fairly new. The installed drivers should not be very old and should meet the criteria for running DLSS. Once you are sure that you have the right hardware with the right updates, just follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Find the Settings menu and click to open it.
- Step 2: From the general menu, locate the Graphic option to adjust the graphic settings.
- Step 3: Scroll down to the DLSS option and toggle it ON.
- Step 4: You’re all done!
Different games have these options arranged in a different order, but the sub-menus still remain somewhat same across all the games. Here’s a screenshot of DLSS location in Cyberpunk 2077:
Pros and Cons of using DLSS
Pros:
- The most obvious pro here is the improvement in FPS (Frames per Second). DLSS increases the number of frames produced per second.
- No need to buy expensive builds to enjoy a decent gameplay.
- It is not CPU intensive which means more sharper images can be rendered for higher resolutions without having to bottleneck the CPU.
Cons:
- DLSS is only compatible with Nvidia RTX graphics card.
- DLSS needs to be manually implemented which can be a little hectic for some people depending upon the game they’re playing.
- DLSS places AI generated frames in between the original frames to enhance image which at times doesn’t create eye pleasing output.
In the End:
So, is it even worth it for you to enable DLSS?
The short answer is YES! But wait, it still depends on a lot of factors. If you’re playing a game on a smaller resolution and want more FPS then sure, go ahead and turn it on. But that’s not the case anymore. we have resolutions that goes up to 8K now and 4K is becoming more and more normal and because of these factors, concepts or features like DLSS3 are becoming more necessary in order to keep up with these high-end resolutions.
Issues like the compatibility of DLSS with only Nvidia RTX graphics cards, for instance., the fact that DLSS 3 is only compatible with the newly announced Nvidia 40 Series and the limited adaptability of DLSS in only a few number games is something that should be looked into, along with a few reports of latency issues among the gaming community. Even though a new GPU would still be a better choice for having an ultimate high resolution gaming experience. But still it’s nice to have something that claims to be capable of giving you that same experience up to some extent without having to spend big bucks.
